A place that is worth a visit if in Santa Cruz, Bolivia is the Guembe Biocenter. The Guembé Biocentro in Santa Cruz (also known as the Butterfly resort or Mariposario resort) is a 24 hectares (46-acre) nature paradise surrounded by exotic plants, insects, animals and lush forests of the region.

The Guembé Biocentro is also full resort hotel with cabins, camping facilities, restaurants and bars, pools, waterslides, lagoons for kayaking and many other things to do.

The main attraction here is its gigantic netted butterfly dome, which is said to be the world's largest butterfly sanctuary. The dome contains 180 species of butterflies local to the region, inhabiting a tropical garden within a netted infrastructure.

From there you can get a tree top view and see all the immensity of Amboro National Park and a fascinating view of the expanding city of Santa Cruz.

It is located about 25 minutes northwest from downtown Santa Cruz at Kilometro 7, Carretera a Porongo. Guembé Biocentro is open is open 7 days a week all year round (including holidays).

Admission cost is 70 Bs. and children pay 30 Bs for a day at the park for the basic package which includes the butterfly dome & other activities. There are also other packages you can purchase that include guided tours, meals, overnight stays and other activities.
