Plaza in Santa Cruz, Bolivia

In the center of Santa Cruz, Bolivia is Plaza 24 de Septiembre. This central square is where many locals gather to relax on the benches, get your shoes shined, play chess, read or take a walk.

The plaza is named after the date on September 24, 1810 when Santa Cruz declared its independence and joined the resistance against Spaniard control.

Around the plaza stands a few colonial buildings, the mayorÂ’s office and other government buildings are located around the plaza. On the south side of the plaza stands the main cathedral with twin bell towers, known as Basilica de San Lorenzo.

It is nice to walk around and check out the many stores and and souvenir shops near the plaza. You can also find information for tourists and the attractions in the area.
