There are many areas to go for a good night out. Within the city center of La Paz there are many good bars, pubs, restaurants and clubs that you can go for a good night out. For a more upscale nightspot go over to the middle-class suburb of Sopocachi on Avenida 20 de Octubre. There you can find a variety of bars, nightclubs, discos and many of which have live music. For a taste of Bolivian music you can attend a peña. A pena is an Andean or highland Bolivian music show that features the folklore music of the Andes played on typical Andean instruments. Most penas play six days a week and some just have shows only on Friday and Saturday nights. Most start at 9 or 10pm and can last until 1am. Admission ranges from 30Bs to 50Bs and usually includes the first drink free. A popular pena in La Paz is Restaurant Peña Marka Tambo or Pena Restaurant Huari (see below), both of which puts on a good show Thursday through Saturday nights. Bars, Pubs & PeñasSol Y Luna on Calle Murillo #999, is a popular traveler's hangout, serving beers by the pint and a wide variety of cocktails. They also serve food and menus are in English & Spanish. Bar has a great atmosphere and prices are in the mid-range.Ram Jam on Presbitero Medina #2124, is a very popular place and is open very late. The place also has an oxygen bar upstairs. Where you can breath in some pure oxygen at the high altitude. Mongo's Rock Bottom on Hermanos Manchego #2444, is a very popular bar among travelers and locals. They also serve food and play music for dancing. Coyote Bar on Ave. 20 de Octubre #228, is small but it is popular and has a great atmoshphere. Peña Restaurant Marka Tambo on Calle Jaen #710, is a popular tourist place to see live Bolivian music. Here you can eat & drink and you'll see local musicians playing on their Andean instruments. The entrance fee starts at around 30Bolivianos. Peña Restaurant Huari on Calle Sagarnaga #339, is another popular tourist place to see live Bolivian music. Here you can have eat & drink and you'll see local musicians playing on their Andean instruments. The food & drinks is a bit more expensive than other places.
