Top Markets in La Paz, BoliviaThere are dozens of markets in the city of La Paz where you can find just about anything you are looking for. There is an artisians' market, flower market, black market, witchcraft market, several food markets and many other types.
Probably the most popular market for tourists is along Calle Sagarnaga and the surrounding streets, where you'll find a street dotted with shops and street stalls that sell many handmade items and souvenirs. You can find items such as textiles, leather clothing, alpaca sweaters, panchos and many other items.
Also, the market area around Plaza San Francisco is a great place for some bargains on handcraft items. Below is a list of top markets in La Paz, Bolivia
Mercado de las Brujas (Witches' Market): Located in downtown La Paz, Bolivia on Calle Linares. This market hosts a crowded line of bizarre shops. At the Witches Market you can get whatever charm, candle or potion you might need to bring health, love, money, fertility, safe travels, etc. You'll see items being sold such as ingredients for folk medicine remedies and herbal treatments for various ailments. You can buy potions, crafted jewelery, dried frogs, owl feathers and many other unusual items.
Mercado Rodriquez: This is the best and cheapest food market in La Paz. Here you can find fruits and vegetables, fresh fish from Lake Titicaca and seafood from Peru. But get there early to pick up the freshest produce possible. This markets is located at Calle Rodriguez and is open daily. A similar market, but a bit more expensive is the Mercado Sopocachi on Calle Guachalla in Sopocachi.
Mercado Negro (Black Market) is along Calle Graneros and Calle Max Paredes in La Paz. There you'll find pirated DVDs and CDs. Knockoff apparel and clothing such as Nike and Louis Vuttion purses. You'll find electronics, household items and coca leaves to chew on. And Anything else you can think of you'll probably find it there.
Feria Del Alto: Located in El Alto, a southwestern suburb of La Paz, Bolivia. There is a massive market held here on Thursdays and Sundays Here you can find a wide range of items, such as handicraft items, textiles, leather clothing, alpaca sweaters, panchos and many other conventional items.
The El Alto market is a bit of a maze, and youll probably get a bit lost, but its an experience and there are some great bargains. To stay safe, dont go up on your own, stay within the main market. To get there, take any minibus marked La Ceja, and get off at the top of the autopista, where there will be footbridge crossing the road and crowds of people. If youre not sure where to get off, ask the driver for el Mercado.
